Hometown hero time! Well, Sacramento at least… RINGS OF SATURN… Amazing! A must hear for fans of The Faceless, Born of Osiris, Brain Drill, and Nile. Basically they’re a super technical deathcore band that writes songs about aliens… yep… aliens. I can’t describe their music to you so just listen to them and i guarantee you’ll love them forever… My only remaining words are…
ANCIENT
ALIENS
At The Drive-In… The recently reunited progressive punk act, making their big comeback at this years COACHELLA music festival. I for one, wanted to go to the festival just to see them. Its a bit embarrassing, but I found out about this band from Guitar Hero -_- I’m seriously ecstatic about their reunion… I hope they put out a new album soon, but for now, here’s the hit song that made them known…
Ugh… Rap. Why does it have to have such amazing capabilities, but most of it has to be bad? Lil Wayne, Kanye, Jay Z… They’re not rappers, they’re pop singers who sometimes do vocal parts that are similar to rap. Atmosphere is a rapper. He’s white too. I didn’t know that until I saw this video. I don’t have much to say. He writes amazing lyrics and has a very distinct style. I really want to try making rap music. I’m great at rapping, but bad at remembering lyrics.
I decided to write about “The Fall of Troy” because I was reading that chapter in our mythology book in my Engrish class, and I brought this band up, and Mr. Elkin (my super duper teacher) told me I should write about them. So this progressive post hardcore band from Washington broke up in 2010, so I’m angry. Once again, a band broke up before i listened to them!!! Tell me this is not beautiful! It has just the right combo of melody, technicality, and brutality! GET BACK TOGETHER!
Enter Shikari. One of the greatest hardcore/electronic crossover bands ever, and the most obviously British bands ever. This song should demonstrate this. From the intro, to the trance-y synths in the verse and chorus, to the dubstep sound effects in the breakdown, this song keeps rocking while remaining danceable throughout. I love the way they can also go from metal to chiller alternative rock flawlessly. They’re just perfect. I hope I get to see them live soon.
How bout some local folks? That’s right, these guys are NU alumni! I first found out about Hella from my friend Simon. It turns out the guitarist from this band is his drum teacher. When he told me about them, I had no idea what they sounded like, and I would have never guessed that they were a wacky noise rock band. I first actually heard them from Pandora. This song came up on The Locust Radio. After looking into them, I found out they actually have a small but very loyal fan base. Now I can’t wait to meet this guy, and I hope at some point I’ll be able to play with these guys after I get a new band up and running. This band is a real math/noise rock legend who has toured all around the world, and I’m overly excited that they come from right here in good ole Nevada County.
I found these guys because of a Sumerian Records sampler CD i got at the Warped Tour. I had to write about them for many reasons. 1. I love every band on Sumerian Records 2. This song has the greatest chorus ever. Ok, so tons of people are good at growling and screaming, but the clean singing is these guys’ big ticket. The vocals in that chorus are amazing, and the insane blast beat compliments it further. I just today found out that these guys are a christian band. Not how I roll, but it’s respectable, so to them I say… KEEP ON MOSHIN4CHRIST!!!

I’ve been an official straightedge since new years day 2012. I always have been a bit, but I never decided to make a serious dedication to it till then. GhostXShip is my favorite straightedge hardcore band. I really like the fact that they come from a town known for partying. Being sxe in Syracuse is probably just as hard as it is in Nevada County. These guys are really good at writing honest lyrics about the environment around them, which many sxe bands aren’t too great at. So for that, I salute you, GhostXShip!
From the BEST MOVIE EVER!!!

Born of Osiris is just straight up one the best bands in the world. Listening to this should explain why. They are one of the most talented, creative, and original deathcore bands in the world. Listening to this entire song all the way through should break every single stereotype there is about metal music. I’m actually wearing a BOO shirt right now, and I’m still mad at myself for not yet having seen them live. If you’ll excuse me, I must now play the Muppet’s party cruise.
